I read this after book three, which is how it is placed on Goodreads, however given that everything is explained and moved on in book three, I recommend reading this one after the second book. I enjoyed seeing what happened on the night in question, and boy do Ricki and Calder have some smoldering chemistry! I look forward in continuing their story to find out how they deal with things between them after the events which took place in the third book. A must read for fans of this series.

The sexy, erotic prequel to Love Bites is well worth the read!

The sexy, erotic prequel to Love Bites, One Little Bite, which first appeared in the Shiver Anthology: 13 Sexy Tales of Humor and Horror, was also eluded to in Bewitched, Bothered, and Bitten when Kerry receives a frantic phone call from her friend Ricki after she hooks up with Calder, a werewolf and beta of the MacIntire pack, at Donna and Conner's Halloween party.

Though Donna had warned her that werewolves had a tendency to hook up with two, three, sometimes even four different people in a night, Ricki hadn't listened. She'd thought Donna had been exaggerating. She'd thought that Calder had wanted more than a one-night stand. She'd enjoyed their verbal sparring and his smart-ass remarks. And he'd seemed so interested in her and not just for sex. That was, until she'd woken up to an empty bed and had decided to go looking for him ... and find him she did—shirtless and barefoot with another woman wearing only a minuscule pair of lace panties and sheer matching bra.

Ricki had thought they'd had this amazing connection, so it had hurt that Calder could screw her six ways to Sunday, then go chasing after another woman as though what they had shared had meant nothing. Reminding her of all the times her father had promised her mother that she was the only one, and her lying, cheating exes had promised her the same, Ricki does what any self-respecting woman would do and gets the heck out of there.

But in her distress she forgets Rule #1 when dealing with a werewolf: Never run.

Though the story ends on a bit of a cliff-hanger, which is to be expected with a prequel, overall, I found One Little Bite to be a very entertaining read. Ricki and Calder had a great dynamic and the chemistry between them was off-the-charts hot. With that said, the story is summed up quite nicely in Bewitched, Bothered, and Bitten, and therefore not absolutely necessary to the continuity of the series. But for the price ... the author certainly packs a lot of detail into the 12 chapter, 57 page sexy, erotic short story, making it well worth the read!

I love this series!!!

I can't get enough of the bitten series. I love all the the characters. I love the friendship between the women and they are hilarious. I was very excited to read this book because I don't read PNR with werewolves and I loved it. The chemistry between the two characters is amazing. I didn't realize this was a short story when I bought it at only 57 pages. I just about cried when I got to the end! This is a must read series for PNR lovers!

A RATHER “STEAMY” ACCOUNT OF RESNICK’S FRIENDSHIP WITH NICOLE AND SIMPSON

Author Faye Resnick wrote in the Foreword to this 1994 book, “I will, with all the accuracy and all the honesty I can muster, write about the events that led up to this awful crime. In doing this, I know I must be unflinchingly truthful about myself. Writing this book has been painful… But to tell Nicole’s story honestly, I must also tell you mine. Some of what I say can never be corroborated… But on all that I hold sacred, I promise you the truth. I know that powerful allies of O.J. Simpson will do everything in their power to discredit me… This book is dedicated to the most wonderful friend I have ever known, and to women everywhere who are trapped n corrosive and humiliating relationships like the one Nicole did not survive… Nicole, you have no one to speak for you. Let me try…”

She begins the second chapter with the statement, “One of my most vivid memories… is the night I saw the other side of O.J.’s happy, smiling face. When I tell you about the last times I saw that face, you’ll know why I believe O.J. killed my best friend.” (Pg. 7)

Of the funeral, she says, “I sat down next to O.J. … I said to him, ‘O.J., what happened?’ He never moved, but again I saw the jaw muscles clenching… Then words that are seared into my memory forever spilled out like an unbidden cry.’ ‘Girl… you---out of all of them---know that I loved her too much.’ I was stunned.” (Pg. 25)

She says, “Talking about that awful night with Keith in 1992, Nicole said, ‘When I told O.J. he had no business interfering with my life, he turned it around and said he was concerned that our kids, who were upstairs sleeping, could wake up and walk downstairs. He said it was the wrong thing to be having sex with the kids in the house.’” (Pg. 49)

Resnick admits, “I have been in the Betty Ford Clinic twice and the Exodus Recovery Center once over an eight-year period for cocaine addiction. I honestly believed that I had beaten it after my second Betty Ford trip, but the pressure of watching Nicole’s tragedy weakened me. That is not an excuse; it’s just an opinion.” (Pg. 59)

She suggests, “To understand why O.J. was so compulsively attracted to Nicole, you’d have to understand his mind-set. O.J. seemed to hate being black and… avoided any real contact with the black community… Marguerite was probably the last black woman O.J. would ever be with… Nicole was not the first white woman in O.J.’s life, nor was she the last. Before they met, O.J. had made it a point to be seen with as many beautiful women as possible---and it was generally understood that only whites need apply. His flirtations and affairs while he was married to Nicole, as well as during their separation, invariably were with women who… definitely were a lighter shade of pale.” (Pg. 88-89)

After Simpson joked about the fact that “my wife’s biggest fear in life is frogs, and I’ve just ended up starring in a TV series called ‘The Frogmen’!,” she notes, “Two minutes later, O.J. got up and left… [Nicole] turned to me and said, ‘I don’t think that’s funny… It’s cruel. I’m afraid this man will kill me some day.’ It was one of those shocking statements that are so unbelievable you wonder if you heard right.” (Pg. 143-144) Of the next day, she says, “I will never forget the look on her face when she repeated her astounding statement of the day before. ‘I feel that if we get back together, he’ll end up killing me. I don’t think he’s changed.’” (Pg. 145)

Of the infamous incident in 1989, she recounts Nicole telling her, “Faye, that was the worst night of my life. For hours, I don’t know how long, O.J. would watch TV, then he’d come back, open the closet door, hit me some more, then lock me up again. I was so scared. I wanted to die… I don’t know what was worse, the beatings or that awful FEAR of waiting for him to come back and do it again.” (Pg. 148-149)

Later, she continues speaking for Nicole, “If I’m with him, and I complain about his women, he’s going to beat me. And maybe someday he’ll beat me to death… So that’s my choice, Faye. I think he’ll kill me if I stay with him, so if he’s going to kill me because I’m leaving, I may as well face it now.” (Pg. 171-172)

She says that Simpson later told her, “If she’s with another man, I’ll kill her. You tell her she’d better play her role and look like my wife until August. Stay away from any man until August. You tell her that, Faye!” (Pg. 175)

She also asserts, “we were sipping our cappuccino with a bunch of the Starbucks boys… Nicole had a crush on one of them… His name was Ron Goldman, and the first time I saw him I told Nicole, ‘… he’s absolutely gorgeous!’ Nicole was pleased to hear my judgment. But looking back on it, I feel a lot of guilt… it’s just something that will bother me forever. Let me answer the burning question, once and for all: Nicole and Ron Goldman were not lovers… What is true is that, inevitably, Nicole was going to ‘do’ Ron. It was something that was going to happen. But Nicole was in no rush.” (Pg. 185-186)

She also purports to report a single sexual relationship she had with Nicole: “No, it never happened again. The only discussion Nicole and I ever had was to acknowledge how inevitable it had seemed.” (Pg. 197-199) She adds, “The night Nicole and I were together was unique. We had both been disillusioned and deeply hurt by men and had lost trust in everything but each other. We needed the warmth, closeness, and safety of each other’s arms. However, let me make it clear that neither Nicole nor I were or ever could be [lesbian].” (Pg. 202)

It’s difficult to believe many parts of Resnick’s book. [Why would she not make more an effort to help her “best friend” get out of an abusive relationship like this one?] But “caveat emptor”…

And it gets even better

As the titles says...it gets even better. Like many of Dale's readers, I have purchased all his books. The young ancients series put me on the hook, and I haven't regretted it since. There are only a handful of authors who's books I will buy without even reading the synopsis - this is one. If you read the first book, or follow the Keely universe, you know what to expect with this book. That being said, the author does a nice job of moving the story along and even throwing in a few unexpected twists.

You see Zack continue to mature and placed into some unexpected situations. Lines are being drawn and sides are starting to develop. To be honest, this is now my favorite series. It reminds me a little of the first few books of the young ancient series. Nothing too serious, but starts building the suspense/questions as the series moves along. Definitely a must read for fans of this author.

More Zach & Keeley

This is the second installment of the Other Places series, which is told in the Keeley Thomson (Mistress of Souls) universe. And it is GREAT fun!

Zach is learning more and more about his past and what the future holds for him. He's got a number of surprises in store and it has, and will, impact his relationship with his friends and co-workers. It's an extremely fun read and moves the story along very well.

I really loved this character from the beginning and he just keeps getting better. I like his interactions with Keeley and the other Greater Demons, plus he gets to work with a bunch of different kinds of "people" which is always interesting.

If you haven't read the previous Keeley and Other Places book(s), then you should definitely do so. This is a great addition to the series and you'll absolutely love it.

If you like any other P.S. Power book, you'll love this series as well. I highly recommend it.

Zack is back!

In a great follow up to last year's Shortcuts Zack returns for more shopping mall hijinks.

If you just read Shortcuts and are wondering what happened to the Christmas party, it takes place in Demon Trap. In fact Other Places and Keeley Thomson become even more entwined in this book. Like with the author's other series, Young Ancients, he doesn't even try to keep the different point of view story lines separate. It's best to just read everything in publication order. But, don't let that scare you off. The story is awesome! And well worth it!

A Great Professor/Student Short Story!

Short, sexy, and well-written.

The professor/student fantasy has been re-written thousands of times, but the author does a very good job of hitting all of the right buttons. Nothing is rushed, and the professor’s inner dialogue is very convincing. Scarlett, the fantasy red-head’s transformation from brat to submissive is quick, but very well done. Most of the short stories in this kink are unbelievable and require too much suspension of disbelief, but this isn’t just a “You’re getting a spanking for being rude” professor/student story.

As Scarlett begins to transform, she embraces a submissive side that she hasn’t known about. That’s pretty typical for this kind of story, but the way that the professor manipulates her is very well done. Initially, Scarlett doesn’t embrace any of it, but as he forces her to ask for it, she finally gives in. By the end of her “punishment”, she doesn’t want anyone but the seductively manipulative professor, and you can understand why.

Overall, a great addition to the professor/student kink!

Wow hot story!

Oh wow, how hot can a short story be?

Don’t read when you are in public or have to face other people afterwards, because it is a story which can turn you on big time.

How can a girl be so perfect? Looking sexy and being smart. At least smart with learning not with her attitude. She thinks she can do anything, but her professor shows her she is wrong.
When she goes over the line he makes her stay after class and punishes her. First she doesn’t take him serious and talks back, but soon he has all the control and shows her that punishment can be extremely hot and a huge turn on.

This is a story which you can read again and again and it still is a hot one.

Blistering Hot!

For such a short story, the author manages to imbue the characters with quite a bit of depth. I think this is because she focuses on the dynamic between the two characters and how their actions physically, mentally and emotionally effect each other. This exactly the type of writing that gets me hot.
There's a reason the professor/student relationship has been done and redone a million times in romance and erotica - it's blistering hot.. if done well, and this one is done well.
Many writers will rely solely on setting the scene and detailing the actions of their characters to tell their story, which forces you to interpolate their feelings and thoughts. I love when a writer takes the time to give us a peek inside their character's heads, for me this is what turns an okay story into something better, and that is what really grabbed me about this short tale.
The one negative point I have, besides that I'd love to see this turned into something longer, is that there are some editing issues: typos, odd word choices or turns of phrase, and some issues with change of tense. Overall, though, it did not affect my enjoyment. This story is a true diamond in the rough, and with a bit of polish could be turned into a shiny, sparkling gem.

"You're too much of a pu**y to shoot me" --- famous last words of Mike Brown

Well, the Justice Department, even, has pretty much confirmed Mike Brown was a thug and a robber whose repeat attack on the officer more than merited being shot. Remember Brown's famous last words to the officer during the assault? "You're too much of a pu**y to shoot me." Somehow, Lowery neglects to report that.

Read this pathetic screed only if you're always in the mood to read--as Wesley Lowery is always in the mood to write--that all police are racist and all unarmed black males shot by police are gentle giants or misunderstood victims of racist violence...or some such polarizing nonsense.

This junk isn't worth 299 pennies, much less a hour or two of your time.

A Must Read.

A great book on an ever ongoing debate about the racial situation in the US between the Black and the White. I live in the South and this book draw my interest. It is written excellently and it describes what the american nation struggles with for centuries: that Black people are not equal to White people. I came from Germany who actually has a similar confrontation with the Jews even nowadays, but with one main difference: German police officers do not use their guns that often and the killings by German law enforcement officers are kept to a minimum, almost close to zero. There is no such "Stand your ground" attitude that let people simply pull the trigger when they feel offended. This books gives an outstanding insight to the fact that people in the US must change their minds instead of simply letting situations escalate. No one has the right to take the life of another human being and this means, no one. Read the book and get your own reflections. I keep my hope that one day people learn about respecting each other, not just by sending their prayers but by acting in a non-violent way.

Chuck Swindoll is my favorite author and he does an excellent work with The Greatest Life of All. No surprise to me. Anyone who likes Chucks work and wants to know Jesus from a side you've not seen before should get the book.
