About the Author
The author was born in 1943, and experienced his earliest years of life in eastern Utah's Uinta Basin; first near the town of Myton, then Roosevelt. In 1954, the family moved to Provo, where he attended Provo High School, and later Brigham Young University, where he earned a B.S. degree in Sociology. Shortly thereafter he discovered that was the wrong subject, so he attended the University of Utah, where he received his Master of Science degree in Geography, finishing that in June, 1970.

It was then real life began, for on June 9, 1970, he put a pack on his back and started traveling for the first time. Since then he has seen 223 countries, republics, islands, or island groups. All this wandering has resulted in a number of books written and published by himself. It's a Friggin' Adventure Bible, but Treat with Respect

This is the bible of Canyoneering in SE Utah. The simple maps, concise descriptions and knowledgeable tips will get you into as much trouble as you want . . . and that's why we do this, right? The park service has baned Kelsey's books from their bookstores because he "reveals too much," and they claim people "get into trouble" following his guides -- bugger to them! People can be unprepared idiots. If you read the damn book you'll realise that only trained people should be stemming up slot canyons, swimming hypothermic plunge pools and gingerly investigating delicate Anaszi ruins -- not your average hee-haws looking for a good place to swill a 12-Pack of beer. The beer swillers don't want this book, go to Lake Powell instead.

Opens the door

Before Kelsey, all the guide books declared many canyons impassable. In this book, Kelsey has provided the information to hike canyons safely that were unvisited before his book. I've used this book since the First Edition in 1986. It's a classic and still tops. One warning. Kelsey is a stronger hiker than most of us. Add about 50% to his hiking time estimates if you're not under 35 and in good shape.

Good news, bad news

This book has the most thorough coverage of the canyon country available. It's allowed us to find several sites that we couldn't find in any other guidebook. That's the good news. The bad news is that what Kelsey considers non-technical often requires a harness and rope. He's obviously a climber, and on several occasions we've had to backtrack because we came to an impassable pour-off or cliff. So just be advised that hikers will often find the non-technical to be more technical than they'd expect from the descriptions.

Since the Bender Gestalt Test could be administered to large groups of soldiers in five to ten minutes, it became one of the most popular tests of that era, and it has remained one of the five most popular and frequently used tests for the assessment of personality and neurologic abnormalities.

American academicians, researchers, and clinicians affected by the surge in cost containment measures of managed health care and the sharply reduced funding in outpatient and inpatient mental health services are seeking expeditious, inexpensive solutions for complex, often chronic problems. The Bender Gestalt Test offers quick, relatively culture-free, non-verbal personality and neurologic information that is ideal for group administration. Based on thirty years of experience with more than twenty thousand subjects of diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds, as well as independent research conducted at the University of Miami, Florida, the system developed by Reichenberg and Raphael offers a new means of extending and increasing the dynamic personality assessment usage of the test. wow, super spannend!
Entf�hrt - Bis du mich liebst von der Autorin Mila Olsen, erz�hlt eine au�ergew�hnliche Liebesgeschichte, die mit einer Entf�hrung anf�ngt, spannend und zur Liebe w�chst.

Die 16-j�hrige Louisa nach einem Streit mit ihrem Bruder wird auf einem Campingplatz in Kalifornien von einem gutaussenden jungen Mann entf�hrt. In der Wildnis Kanadas wird sie festgehalten. Es beginnt eine Zeit der Angst, Verzweiflung und Ungewissheit. Kann sie ihm entkommen? Sie ist hin und weggerissen zwischen Hass und Liebe.
Der Schauplatz wir so im Detail beschrieben, dass man die Wildnis Kanadas sp�rt und erlebt.
Die Geschichte ist so spannend geschrieben, dass man sich in Louisa wiederfindet und mit ihr alles hautnah erlebt. Die Ohnmacht nichts machen zu k�nnen, dieses Gef�hl der Hilflosigkeit. Man Fiebert mit, erlebt die Geschichte so intensiv, dass man das Buch nicht weglegen m�chte.

DOIN' IT THE EASY WAY!

The Real Way To Play The Cat Anderson Trumpet Method (Paperback)

Okay, I'm not known as a "high-note" specialist, rather as a jazz trumpeter, admittedly of some repute. In my opinion I've got all the range I need for how I play (up to a high G), beyond that I leave the heavy-lifting to others.

But, that being said, purchasing and studying this this book by Geoff Winstead was still the BEST thing I could have done to ensure LONGEVITY in playing trumpet. I'm seventy-one years old as this is written and playing better, with less effort and more endurance than I was fifty years ago. This is due primarily to study and practice of this book by Geoff Winstead.

Why? Well, beyond the fact that it's written by a serious pro trumpeter with the chops and experience to prove it, he's also a professional writer! This is a combination that can't be beat because it's written with clarity, brevity and most importantly, humanity. It keeps the human factor involved in playing trumpet (to me the most important factor of all).

Now, yes, it does do exactly what it promises, which is to show you the REAL way to play the Cat Anderson trumpet method. So, if this is what you've got your sights set on, then there is no other book on the market that accomplishes this goal better than this one.

Whatever your immediate or long-term goals for playing trumpet, this book is the top of my (extensive) list of trumpet method books. It's got it all.
Highly recommended.

Cat's Method Book

I still do the whisper G everyday and I always do the "Preliminary Exercise" after any time off the horn or if I have a really demanding date coming up, there is no better way to get the chops in shape QUICK! This method is not easy, form and keeping the dynamics exactly the way they are written are key! Spend as much time on each lesson as necessary and get to where you can make it through the lesson, if that takes 3 weeks or 3 months or 3 years so be it! Follow this book and the physical aspect of trumpet playing will become very easy which will free you up mentally to focus on what is important....MUSIC!

Very well put togther. This book explains in simple terms how to build a strong foundation and improve your range and endurance. It is not and was not meant to replace Clarks or Arbans. If used as directed you will get results, HOWEVER you MUST do it everyday. If you are looking for "high note grease" to play a double C tomorrow then keep lookng. If you are serious about playing and want to play with ease, endurance and increase your range then look no futher. As with anything you get what you put into it.

Cat got your tongue? Literally in that case. Lannor the catshifter, who is sent to our realm to find real love. He tried, he really tried, but no woman made it for him. He loved them, so he thought.

Until one day he met someone who showed him feelings he never felt before.

It is a gay romance. And one of the rare who are a romance between two men - not a man and a woman who by chance looks male. Both men act as men, they are male. No pretty pink lips, no curvy backside - just two men.

And that's why I love this story that much. Lannor and all his insecurities, once he found out that this man stirs up some strange feelings. It is new to him - and you believe it.

All in all it is a really beautiful feelgood story.

Bradshaws handbook facsimile a good buy or no?

I purchased this version of the book after reading reviews of the facsimile against the reprinted version which said the facsimile was the better reproduction wise. I am pleased with the content of the book and the presentation of the book however the text is too small for my poor old eyes. As the age group who would be most interested in reading this book would probably be the older variety the size of the text could be a problem.
Overall though, I am very pleased with the purchase.

Most of the original maps are not included

The text is very small and not easy to read. Most to of the maps, an essential part of the book, are NOT included, so I was very disappointed. The maps in Baedecker's Great Britain of 1906 are far superior and Baedecker is a great historical document.

This book came in handy for me as i have the Great railway Jouneys of Great Britian on DVD with Micheal Portilo, in these DVDs he follows this book and i was able to follow along as well and this made watching the DVDs more enjoyeable..The book is well detailed and the picture are also well drawn the maps are finely done and well presented for its time of publishing its a pitty it couldnt be published as it was in the real book and that all the maps were not reproduced as well over all its a great book for any train enthusiast..

Ever since I wrote my first book on Non Resident Indians�I have been thinking about migration and its consequences on the psyche of both the migrants and those dear ones left behind�in the home country.� This book THE TANJORE PAINTING comes from my observances of Indians in the USA� and how they strive to constuct cultural artifacts to feel somewhat at home in their new surroundings and to overcome the naggng nostalgia for the lands they have left. In this they are greatly encouraged by their folks back in the old country who empathise with their situation and want to do their best to mitigate the pains of migration.

This novella deals with the dilemma of Indian migrants in the USA, and the manner in which they construct cultural images to overcome their alienation
Lalita and Maya come from a highly nationalistic family. Their mother had been jailed as a political prisoner and later awarded a Tamra Patra citation.� A granduncle, a well known political figure, undertook fasts-unto-death for the opening of temple doors to lower castes.� Gandhiji wrote to him about the fast.� Maya becomes a reluctant migrant to the USA. She lives in a small town in America.� Part of the annual holiday to India is spent in pilgrimage at the temple town of Guruvayur. Maya renews her pledge to return to India.� Many among the Diaspora have this longing but some also try to become truly American even taking to seemingly strange ways.� Maya is staunchly resistant to any such changes.� Her friend Shyamala succumbs whereas Shyamala's husband goes into a cultural regression changing from unemployed scientist into a Swami who conducts religious rituals for the Diaspora. Lalita lives in a capital city in India.� The sisters are closely bonded and when Maya bares her unhappiness to live in America, Lalita tries to help her overcome her nagging pain and always counsels her to make a success of her new life in the USA.�� Maya's remorse at having turned her back on the country her folks had fought to free from colonial bondage, finally turns into a firm resolve and she books herself a one way ticket to India.�
Lalita dabbles in the graphic arts and is persuaded to paint a representation of the Lord of Guruvayur.� This icon has deep resonance for both Lalita and Maya for this was the Temple where a granduncle had performed a fast unto death in order to open it to the Harijans and Gandhiji had commented on this fast in a faded letter found in an old box. Creating the iconic painting was a high point in Lalita's devotion and she carries her Tanjore style painting of the Lord of Guruvayur to America. Finally the Tanjore Painting is ceremoniously consecratedby the unemployed scientist turned Swami who has taken to being a priest in the service of the Indians in USA.� Maya is deeply moved after the investiture and she goes into a trance that conjures a vision of the Lord of Guruvayur descending and blessing her.�� When she wakes up from the spell she is cured of her itch to return to India.� She rationalises on the universal equality in all things, Occidental or Oriental, American or Indian, in Carolina or in Kerala.� Her sister has healed her of that obsessive pining to return to the home country through the medium of her art and by the magical aura of her iconic painting.

About the Author
Chandrashekhar Sastry is a widely travelled engineer-scientist now retired and living in Bangalore. He has studied in Bombay, Germany and in the UK holds a PhD from Birmingham University and worked in Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata and Bangalore.
His first book The Non-Resident Indian (Panther Publishers 1991) was a pioneering work with an unorthodox treatment of a complex subject.
He has been contributing to many magazines and prefers short fiction always choosing contemporary themes.
He has won a first prize from Pan American Airlines for his travel writings.
His short story won the first prize at the contest conducted by the British Council in conjunction with Unisun Publications Pvt Ltd.
Muse India, an e-magazine has awarded him a prize for writing.
His short stories have been selected for several recent anthologies.

The author's slip is showing as though supposedly a work of fiction his work is really a jaundiced and biased pastiche of his own family member's experiences. Slanderous and libelous assertions are made and author went so far as to claim he had removed this book from publication though it appears he did not include copies made available online. A sad reflection of the author's personal enmities and prejudices and a discredit to so scholarly and eminent an author.

Am deeply saddened and ashamed to be one of the poorly fictionalized characters in this odious tome. Author gave us verbal assurances that he would remove this slanderous "literary" trifle from publication over one year ago. Clearly a promise author never intended to keep. Very unfortunate though not at all unexpected.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book Tanjore Painting by Chandrashekhar Sastry. Having lived in the United State for the past two decades, I was able to relate to many of the dualities posed in the book. West versus East, careers versus family, tradition versus modernity, nationalism versus globalization, religion versus secularism, and so on. What is remarkable about this book is the sensitivity with which the author addresses these issues. He does not try to push an agenda nor does he try to show that he has the solution to these contradictions we face in our lives. He goes about it in a very pragmatic and matter fact way. Migration happens for various reasons and we need to go on with our lives as immigrants. There are problems everywhere and one needs to address those problems instead of romanticizing the notion of returning to motherland. Once you have lived a good part of your life outside your home country, you begin to put your roots down and build a community around yourself. You need to make your home there. Of course the author writes all this in a very gentle and down to earth manner.

mind blowing!

Marty Leeds really demonstrates the power and mystery of mathematics like no one before him. His down to earth approach and application of math to explain religion and ancient mysteries will open your mind and you'll never look at religion, chess, free masons, or pi the same way ever again. Get your calculators ready and clear your mind for the only time you'll ever be entertained by math.

50 quick ideas to improve

This new book by Gojko Adzic and David Evans is deceptively slim. It's not just 50 ideas to improve your user stories. It's 50 experiments you can try to improve how you deliver software. For each experiment, David and Gojko provide you with information and resources "to make it work".

One chapter that has caught my eye is "Use Low-Tech for Story Conversations". Gojko and David advise holding story discussions in rooms with lots of whiteboards and few big tables. When everyone sits at a big conference table, looking at stories on a monitor or projected on a wall, they start tuning out and reading their phones. Standing in front of a whiteboard or flip chart encourages conversation, and the ability to draw makes that conversation more clear. Participants can draw pictures, connect boxes with arrows, write sentences, make lists. It's a great way to communicate.

I've always been fond of the "walking skeleton", identifying the minimum stories that will deliver enough of a slice to get feedback and validate learning. Gojko and David take this idea even further, they put the walking skeleton on crutches. Deliver a user interface with as little as possible below the surface now, get feedback from users, and iterate to continually improve it. As with all the ideas in the book, the authors provide examples from their own experience to help you understand the concept well enough to try it out with your team.

David and Gojko understand you're working in a real team, with corporate policies and constraints that govern what you can do. Each story idea ends with a practical "How to Make it Work" section so you can get your experiment started.

Again, it's not just a book of tips for improving your user stories. It's fifty ways to help your customers identify the business value they need, and deliver a thin slice of that value to get feedback and continue to build it to achieve business goals. It's a catalog of proven practices that guides you in learning the ones you want to try.

Great examples on how to prepare user stories, how to split them and nice tips on iterative delivery, definitely worth reading.

Immensely practical book - Perfect for anyone who needs to write and understand user stories

Really like the way this book is laid out - Simple and direct. Every idea structured as follows: 1) The concept; 2) Key benefits 3) How to make it work.

Includes many techniques I use all the time: "Start with the outputs"; "Split by capacity"; "Simplify outputs". Some were variations on familiar concepts: "When all else fails, slice the hamburger"; "Forget the walking skeleton, put it on crutches" (the reference to Cockburn's Crystal Clear made me smile). Then there were ideas that got me thinking - "Use hierarchical backlogs"; "Investigate value on multiple levels"; "Split learning from earning".

Also, don't overlook the bibliography. Listed a number of articles/books I had never read before some of which were as interesting book itself and felt like a bonus.

Overall an enjoyable and useful book on the subject. Deserves to be in your reference library. Highly recommended.
