The missions are usually studied by 4th Graders. This book, the entire series in fact, is written at a 7th Grade level. It does have good information and is designed to help you to work with your child to write the report and build the model. This book, however, will not be useful to the average 4th Grader without support.

my fourth grade sons are quite comfortable with this math program

I use the Common Core edition of EnVision Math for our homeschool math. After five weeks of school, my fourth grade sons are quite comfortable with this math program. We use the student edition of Envision Math as well as the Assessment Source Book. As a highly qualified teacher, I choose to assess my students after each topic is completed by use of the Topic Test. In my opinion, students should be thoroughly assessed with 20 problems that include constructed response and multiple choice test items, otherwise I feel like a lazy teacher. If an assessment does not include enough problems, I choose additional problems from the topic's Quick Check sections, which include three to four problems per topic section, to further assess my sons. To note, the Assessment Source Book also includes other assessments, such as a placement test and benchmark tests, but I have not assessed my students with either.

Anne Lutz Fernandez has been teaching English in Connecticut public middle and high schools for 15 years. Catherine Lutz is the Thomas J. Watson Jr. Family Professor at Brown University and past president of the American Ethnological Society.
