I've never done Yoga before (never believed I could physically do it), but since I injured my back and my doctor recommended for me to do Yoga, it has been a godsend! This book is so full of pictures and helps you to clearly understand how to do the positions and what it does to you. I love this book and would highly recommend it to anyone skeptical about trying Yoga!!

Factual errors

I had high hopes for this book. It has an attractive layout and an encyclopedic range of topics. Unfortunately, in a mere twenty minutes of perusal I discovered factual errors:
1. In the treatment of Stoke's Theorem, the authors neglect to state the very important condition that the surface must be simply connected.
2. The authors claim that the central limit theorem hold with "no restriction on the nature of the individual distributions..." which is untrue. The distributions must have non-diverging moments (i.e., long-tailed distributions), otherwise one ends up with a generalized central limit theorem for which the Levy distributions are stable.
3. The authors lead one to believe that the angular momentum vector is parallel to the angular velocity vector. The discussion of the moment of intertia (tensor) assumes that one already knows what the principal axes are. It is a shoddy treatment.

Finally, in the preface, the authors say that their textbook was "designed for the twenty-first century". Yet they present computer programs in Fortran and C which in my opinion are obsolete languages. The authors should be encouraging the use of Mathematica or Maple.

Given the number of mistakes turned up in so short an inspection, I consider this an unreliable text.

Unusual section on signals and noise...

This book has nice sections on signals and noise and digital filtering, which are important topics but usually left unaddressed in standard mathematical physics books. I think the book is well done, but a good part (a quarter or so) of the book is at a 2nd year calculus review-type level, much more so than most mathematical physics books (e.g. Boas or Arfken). The encyclopedic book by Riley-Hobson-Bence, which I like except for its sheer size, does also have review chapters, but most of that book is still at a higher level. If you want something about signals and noise in the text, this is the book, otherwise, I think the others may be a better choice for advanced undergraduates.

Great book at a reasonable price

I bought this book as a refresher course in mathematical physics since I left grad school almost 10 years ago. I wanted to get straight to the basics and then build from there and also cover the gaps that I had in my math background since I am think about applying to grad school to study Operations Research.

Overall, it seems to be meeting my needs. I wish that they had this in a kindle or e-book form since as a math and physics student, most of your books are pretty large and bulky.

About the Author

Jeff Doyle, CCIE No. 1919, is vice president of research at Fishtech Labs. Specializing in IP routing protocols, SDN/NFV, data center fabrics, MPLS, and IPv6, Jeff has designed or assisted in the design of large-scale IP service provider and enterprise networks in 26 countries over 6 continents. He worked with early IPv6 adopters in Japan, China, and South Korea, and has advised service providers, government agencies, military contractors, equipment manufacturers, and large enterprises on best-practice IPv6 deployment. He now advises large enterprises on evolving data center infrastructures, SDN, and SD-WAN.

Jeff is the author of CCIE Professional Development: Routing TCP/IP, Volumes I and II and OSPF and IS-IS: Choosing an IGP for Large-Scale Networks; a co-author of Software Defined Networking: Anatomy of OpenFlow; and an editor and contributing author of Juniper Networks Routers: The Complete Reference. Highly Recommended For Anyone Interested In The 60s

America in the Sixties is part of the America in the Twentieth Century series. This book was written for use as a college textbook, however it could easily be read and enjoyed by any adult with an interest in this decade, regardless of age or education. Greene covers this turbulent era largely from a political perspective. He offers us a fairly in-depth look at the presidents, the racial wars and civil rights movement, the various student movements, the women's liberation movement, and the start of the gay rights movement. He also touches on the social effects of all this, as well as how television, movies and music evolved during the decade.

This is not your typical dry, college textbook. Greene does not offer us an array of dates and dull facts to memorize. Nor does he feed us information we've been saturated with over the years. Instead, Greene offers a fresh look at perhaps the most meaningful decade of the twentieth century and he does so with a writing style that manages to entertain as well as educate.

Help for the hopeless

I had suffered from symptoms of panic disorder for nearly 20 years and NOBODY could identify what was going on. I joined a support group and learned about this book which was fairly new when I first read it. When I read the case study that was in the book I finally understood what had been going on with me. I made an appointment with a doctor who had talked to this support group and recommended the book. That was twenty two years ago. Once diagnosed and treated properly I've been able to lead a normal life pretty much free of symptoms. Unfortunately there are genetic links with this disorder and a few weeks ago my son now 29 had started having symptoms. I ordered a copy for him and got him an appointment with the Doctor who had helped me. The book is a little dated now but still very relevant and an excellent book still recommended highly by the National Anxiety Foundation.

book, in my opinion, was the best. BUY IT !!!
