Could Be Better.

The arrangements included in this book are simplistic. The melody line is written into the piano score and its faith to the original recordings is middling at best (One Flight Down isn't even the same key). "The Nearness Of You" is easily the arrangement that shines the most.

As a warning, if you struggle with rhythm, you may have some initial trouble, as this book is filled non-standard (read: Jazz and not classical) rhythms. Break out your pencil, sub-divide and give it an hour or two and you should be alright.

Good for intermediate players..no higher level arrangements?

In rating this songbook itself, not the "Come Away With Me" album, I give it four stars. I recommend this to intermediate players, but I have a feeling this isn't the exact arrangements that Norah Jones plays on her CD and live concerts. If this is the highest level in piano, players with a few years experience can stumble through well enough. Some pieces are harder than others. All in all, it's very enjoyable and fun to play, but is there a more exact copy for experienced players out there?

Norah Jones - Come Away with Me -PVG Songbook

I found this songbook is amazing. This songbook can really demonstrate the blue or jazzy melodies regarding to Norah's genre of music. It's not simple at all but it's not too hard. When I received, I just open it anxiously and the book is amazing. It's arranged very similar to the original version and there are many blue notes in it too (those bent notes and blue chords are actually very-well put together!) This book can be challenging for beginners but for an intermediate pianist, this book is what you need!! Actually some of the songs are pretty difficult such as "Don't Know Why" and "turn Me On"!! But if you know how to bend notes on piano to create a blue note, you can always recreate the notes from the book a little bit to make it even more challenging.
For all fellow pianists, I recommend you to get this book! It's the best songbook for y'all Norah lovers. The book itself is beautiful, clean and straight. Even though it has paperbacks, the cover is kinda hard which can definitely last very long!

Throughout the text, the similarities and differences between the various ships are described, and many specific details highlighted, making this a must-have book for the historian and modeler. This is an evocative, engaging story about a young woman and a young man (who plays the harmonium and composes his own songs), who hold to their ardent love for each other, flying in the face of their families' wishes for them to marry within their own religion. Filled with psychologically deft portraits, and told with a supple omniscient voice, this novel explores two overlapping yet distinct cultures (Hindu and Muslim) in India, before and after the Partition, through its compassionate vision and understanding of the two lovers, Hanif and Rohini. An entrancing story, which offers the wonderful benefit too of folding in intricate history about India and Pakistan, with a masterful lightness of touch.

Obama argues with himself on almost every page of this lively autobiographical conversation. He gets you to agree with him, and then he brings in a counternarrative that seems just as convincing. Son of a white American mother and of a black Kenyan father whom he never knew, Obama grew up mainly in Hawaii. After college, he worked for three years as a community organizer on Chicago's South Side. Then, finally, he went to Kenya, to find the world of his dead father, his "authentic" self. Will the truth set you free, Obama asks? Or will it disappoint? Both, it seems. His search for himself as a black American is rooted in the particulars of his daily life; it also reads like a wry commentary about all of us. He dismisses stereotypes of the "tragic mulatto" and then shows how much we are all caught between messy contradictions and disparate communities. Caveat Emptor - Dreams From My Father

Be careful what you order. There are two editions of this book; the 1995 edition and the revised 2004 edition. Note that the 2nd edition lists the 1995 printing first, but that not be what you get. I spent $115 hoping to get the rare, first edition, which supposedly has photos and different text. Instead, I got a hardcover version of the 2004 revised printing. Since the 1995 book was published when Obama was still a relative nobody it stands to reason the first edition had a limited circulation. Don't order the book unless you can see a picture of the cover. If it looks like the 2004 paperback, then it's not the 1st edition.

Read all of the book and learned a lot about his lack of good Father attention. A lesson for any child without a parent around that you make your own decisions in life and your own future. He did have a wild side in his teen years and could have gone a different direction entirely. Applaud people of Hawaii that saw a young man with future potential and invested in him. Credit also to his grandparents for assisting in his raising. No matter what so many say I think he has been a good president at large and has the demeanor and temperament and intelligence to be our American President. Thank You Barack. :-)

Simply love this book

Simply love this book! I have a high admiration for our current President, Obama and reading about his childhood, his struggles as a color child in mix family, his missing father and the impact his parents marriage had on the way he perceives is very interesting. I can definitely understand better his life now, and why he got so far and became the most important man in the world!

Why do American ghettos persist? Decades after Moynihan’s report on the black family and the Kerner Commission’s investigations of urban disorders, deeply disadvantaged black communities remain a disturbing reality. Scholars and commentators today often identify some factor―such as single motherhood, joblessness, or violent street crime―as the key to solving the problem and recommend policies accordingly. But, Tommie Shelby argues, these attempts to “fix” ghettos or “help” their poor inhabitants ignore fundamental questions of justice and fail to see the urban poor as moral agents responding to injustice.

Drawing on liberal-egalitarian philosophy and informed by leading social science research, Dark Ghettos examines the thorny questions of political morality raised by ghettos. Should government foster integrated neighborhoods? If a “culture of poverty” exists, what interventions are justified? Should single parenthood be avoided or deterred? Is voluntary nonwork or crime an acceptable mode of dissent? How should a criminal justice system treat the oppressed? Shelby offers practical answers, framed in terms of what justice requires of both a government and its citizens, and he views the oppressed as allies in the fight for a society that warrants everyone’s allegiance.

“The ghetto is not ‘their’ problem but ours, privileged and disadvantaged alike,” Shelby writes. The existence of ghettos is evidence that our society is marred by structural injustices that demand immediate rectification. Dark Ghettos advances a social vision and political ethics that calls for putting the abolition of ghettos at the center of reform.
